Bajaj Pulsar 200

Regarding the braking performances, this is one place where the engineers struggle a lot. let it be they work for honda, tvs or bajaj. There are a lot of things dealing with weight distribution of front-back here. and the designers always tries to reduce the weight. and another main reason is SCIENCE stands against BEAUTY, most of the times, and they contradict each other. so once again, its a tough job for engineers. They have to use science for aerodynamics, weight distribution, making the CG almost center and low, etc… and still leave an Artistic touch in their design. So basically they all are doing a very tough and a good job. My Hats off to them. but some better the others in the race.
regarding the “back-lifting” issue, ….. Always more power is required on the front wheels because, when you initiate braking, the momentum is altered. This transfers 80% of the bikes weight to the front end. Hence, you require stronger force to stop it compared to the back end. This is the reason why manufactures fit front with discs and rears with drum. in sports bikes, back is disc too, but the fronts run on bigger twin discs. And as always, when you brake hard, the back-tyre is on the ende of getting lifted. you can notice this when you watch MotoGP. The rear tyre actually hops from the track when the riders brake hard.
but apart from the size of the disc and the drums, there is one secret ingredient to very efficient braking. while the former helps in stopping the bike,… the latter will help the rider to do it comfortably and not to get thrown away from the bike. Yes you guessed it RIGHT! its the SUSPENSION.
This is where is the UNICORN betters the others. and pulsar will be the last in the queue. The UNICORN suspension’s damping and stiffness is perfect for its power and weight distribution. i felt the pulsar front end is too soft and it ditches very hard the moment you hold them. got almost thrown off the bike many times. While pulsar gives a sweat on my brow, the unicorn gives me the confidence to time the braking even more lately. The front discs of unicorn is very ncie and progressive, but there is a lot of room for improvement in the rear braking power. For the pulsars, brakes are powerfull, but the suspension does not perform in sync with its brakes. Perhaps, it could have been better if the pulsar front suspension is not so SOFT and the back suspesnion is not so STIFF. Its just my opinion after riding the bike a lot of times since its birth.
